Gold With Jeanette Schneider Episode 29: The Accidental Adventurer with Norma Bastidas

Norma Bastidas is a single-mother, a survivor of sexual violence and human trafficking. An ultra athlete, she broke the Guinness World Record for Longest Triathlon after swimming, biking, and running 3,762 miles from Cancun, Mexico to Washington, D.C., a known human trafficking route. She views athletic feats as metaphors for the incredible trials faced every day by the survivors of sexual violence. Norma’s mission is to educate and empower, demonstrating to the world that one’s past does not dictate one’s future, and prove that everyday people are capable of making extraordinary strides in the fight against the problems facing the world today. 

Norma talks about her son, who lost his vision very quickly due to a degenerative disease, facing her past, and advocating for self and others through running. We also dig into mental health and why it is so important that we normalize the conversation around mental illness diagnosis, end the stigma and unfortunate labels.

The woman is strength, grit and determination. I love her reminder that no matter how tough things get.. it will be ok and that you are not your circumstances. Your identity is not what happened to you.

Gold With Jeanette Schneider Episode 28: Own Your Stuff: Healing Victim/Blame Mentality with Lauren Zoeller

Lauren Zoeller and I both whole-heartedly believe in the alchemy of active choice orientation, but to get there we have to recognize our own victim/blame mentality. Lauren shares how she got out of her own way, but only once she realized that she was ostracizing those she loved by her own “this is happening to me” internal dialogue. She thought everyone was against her and soon realized she was the common denominator. 

Lauren’s own story of overcoming diagnosed depression and anxiety through natural solutions after life crisis has led her to advocate for a non pharmaceutical approach to life. She is now the President and CEO of Lauren Zoeller Coaching, as well as the founder and host of The Balanced Boss Podcast. A show that interviews high achievers who are following their dreams and staying healthy in the process. Melanie Walker believes your mindset is reflected in your environment. Melanie and I talk the energy of things, be it anabolic or catabolic (oxygen v dead weight), the things we hold on to hoping to fit back into them, and healing through purging. I get a little personal advice on blending families and homes, honoring our partners, and why it is so important to clear our space so we can clear our minds.
