The Love Is Viral Show Episode 90: The Sisterhood is Real with Kimberly Trueba

Kimberly Trueba was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada in April 2018 after a nationwide executive search. An experienced executive with twenty-five years of design and business strategy, organizational development, and operations expertise, Trueba oversees a robust Girl Scouts council of girls and volunteers in six counties.

Prior to joining Girl Scouts, Trueba served in an executive leadership role with Forté Specialty Contractors, a construction firm specializing in building experiential environments in the hospitality, restaurant, and entertainment industries. A second-generation design professional, Trueba began her career as a Design and Development Manager with Walt Disney Imagineering for projects such as World of Disney, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, among many others.

In this episode, we discuss:

The importance of an all-girl environment of sisterhood and support

The incredible stats – All female US Secretaries of State, 71% of female U.S. Senators, 59% of women currently serving in the 116th Congress and 53% of female entrepreneurs and business owners are Girl Scout alums

Why we need men to support girls

And the importance of connection for the mental health of children during this uncertain time.

Under her leadership as CEO, Girl Scouts was the recipient of the largest single private gift in Girl Scouts of the USA history with the donation of 70 acres of property and land from the Charles and Phyllis M. Frias Charitable Trust valued at nearly $9 million.

I love Kimberly’s perspective on women’s empowerment being motivated by respect and love. We need more of that!

The Love Is Viral Show Episode 89: Our Wiser Sons with Rocky Garza

Rocky Garza knows first hand how difficult it can be to identify what makes us unique having moved 10 times during childhood. Caught in insecurities and fears,  looking outward he was never able to see his real value or worth. That is until he took a step back and had a long hard look at WHO he was, not just WHAT he did.

Over the past 15 years, Rocky has walked alongside thousands of individuals at Sky Ranch Summer Camp as Director and counseled and supported hundreds while on the pastoral staff at Chase Oaks Church. Now, as a top keynote speaker and culture consultant, he has taken thousands through the Identity Mapping™ process. As a result, they have all been led to understand the most vivid picture of who they are and how they operate best as individuals.

In this episode, we discuss:

The purpose of identity

The beauty of different perspectives

The pressure that society’s definition of “success” has placed on men, causing them to abandon themselves

The importance of men creating space for one another to share their internal dialogue

And what we can do to support and empower our boys and men.

Rocky leads a group called Wiser Sons for men to show up and be seen.

I love Rocky’s advice to be willing to put in the work to know and love yourself, and when you look in the mirror, believe what you see is good.

The Love Is Viral Show Episode 88: Behaving & Doing v Thinking & Feeling with Dr. Sarah McKay

Dr. Sarah McKay believes it’s important for therapists and coaches to know how to use neuroscience wisely in their practice, based on up-to-date, contemporary ideas, allowing for us all to move forward by releasing old-fashioned and outdated ways that aren’t helping people to thrive. Sarah is a neuroscientist and science communicator who specializes in translating brain science research into simple, actionable strategies for peak performance, creativity, health and wellbeing.

In this episode, we discuss:

The importance of taking a step back, and become the observer when it comes to our emotions

The Reptilian Brain- Fact or Fiction?

What Fight or Flight really means

Behaving & Doing v Thinking & Feeling

And how we can use the right tools and strategies to bring a pragmatic approach to the world of mindfulness.

Sarah grew up in New Zealand where she completed BSc(Hons) at Otago University, then headed to Oxford University for her PhD. She sums up her thesis with the words, ‘Nature, Nurture or Neuroplasticity’. After five years of postdoctoral research, Sarah hung up her lab coat to pursue a career in science communications.

Sarah is the author of The Women’s Brain Book—The neuroscience of health, hormones and happiness, and the director of The Neuroscience Academy, which offers professional development program in applied neuroscience and brain health. In 2019, Sarah hosted an episode of ABC Catalyst exploring brain health, bio-hacking and longevity.

Sarah lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with her Irish husband and together they are raising two surfer dudes.

I love Sarah’s reminder that love is what drives us, not fear, and that we all want and need human connection and love from the moment we’re born.

The Love Is Viral Show Episode 87: Breaking Rules… Intentionally with Donna Carlson

Donna Carlson breaks the rules… intentionally. She believes in having a strategy for life and business, but allowing your vision and rhythm for creation to take the wheel.

Donna is the founder of 360 Life Strategies, a business and life strategy coaching company, focused on helping individuals create an inside out strategy.

In this episode we discuss:

How strategy extends far beyond your business plan and why you should get clear on your own internal talk

Why it is so valuable to understand your own rhythms and allow yourself to “break the rules”

The importance of a coach or mentor

Why we must pepper our words with love

I loved everything about his conversation. It just flowed, and I think that is a great example of how to approach our life and business strategies.

You can learn more about Donna and her podcast, Women, Wine and Leadership, where she tells the stories of every day women doing extraordinary things in the world at 360LifeStrategies.com.
